CDT President’s Letter – October 2022

October 13, 2022 By Rhonda Cleaves

First, a big THANK YOU to all of you who are joining me in the monthly challenges to spread the good word about Collaborative and bring new member to Collaborative Divorce Texas. You met with lawyers unfamiliar with Collaborative. You invited non-members to our October Lunch-and-Learn. Now I have a new 30-day challenge for you:

Take a Mental Health Professional Out for Coffee!

One of the best ways we can make Collaborative the preferred method of divorce in Texas is by making sure that those who are thinking about divorce know about the existence of the Collaborative process. Who better to talk to about Collaborative Divorce than the therapists who counsel our clients when their marriages are at an end. I continue to be surprised at how little so many therapists across the state know about the Collaborative Divorce process. Here is an opportunity for us to work together to educate almost 300 additional therapists about the Collaborative Divorce option.

And so, please pick up the phone or send an e-mail and schedule coffee or lunch with a therapist who doesn’t know about Collaborative. Then share some of the many ways the Collaborative Divorce process can benefit their patients who have decided that divorce is their only option:

  • Avoiding the destruction of litigation
  • Parenting schedules tailored to individual families
  • Control over the timing of the divorce process
  • Creative solutions for a couple’s financial division rather than cookie-cutter courtroom outcomes

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again….We can’t grow this movement if we’re not all working together. We all need to be talking to others who have never heard of what we’re doing. So go share that cup of coffee, educate a new colleague, and don’t forget to e-mail me after you have that meeting. I love knowing that there are others out there towing the line!
