It is that time of year again, Holiday Season!! So much fun, food and merry making for many, unfortunately not for all. We are in a business where we witness some pretty challenging emotions and financial stress during this season, compounded by the parenting schedules! This is another example of how the collaborative process and team approach is a great option for communication skill-building and financial accountability during these times.
In the Collaborative Process, we try to help the couple sort out their post-marriage financial matrix with the least amount of toxicity. The Financial Professional (‘FP’) is essential for working with the team and the couple to create an atmosphere of transparency and financial awareness. Money is one of the hardest things to talk about, in any situation; but, especially at a time when trust is at a low point in the relationship. The holidays are especially challenging emotionally and financially, and can worsen with the added dynamics of one-upmanship or trying to buy the affections of children. This often happens as many couples are trying to make ends meet with the newly created double households. The FP can preemptively help couples in this season with budgets and can encourage an open dialogue about cash flows and expectations. Thanks to all of our terrific Financial Professionals and the work they perform in this process.
The full team approach has proven to be a useful, if not essential, tool in the couple’s journey to their new normal. As we contemplate the holidays, I offer this Suella Fernandes quote, “A nation is only as strong as the families that create it. A strong family unit, of whatever form, is where strong citizens are nurtured. That is why it is vital that the family justice system works as well as possible.” Collaborative Divorce Texas is at the forefront of creating a better family justice system!
Let us continue to practice highest standards in word and deed, for the lives of those we serve.
